Video Transcript:

“My name is Katy Thornton. I’m a fourth generation apple and pear farmer up in North Central Washington and I’m going to show you what all goes into keeping our apples safe from low temperatures at night. Everyone this is what I’m doing at what two, almost three in the morning. We run these, it’s like basically a big fan, and we run these to help keep these little blossoms warm enough that they survive. So I gotta go on this side and it’s on automatic right now. Switch over to manual and listen to this.

The reason we use wind machines is because hot air rises and we got to protect those little blooms and the wind machine stirs up the air and makes the temp go up a couple degrees and a couple degrees makes a difference.

Alright, if you listen, the whole valley’s got wind machines going.”
