Happy Farm Friday! ☀️🍎
This week, grower Byron Borton shares with us what a V Trellis system is, and how we utilize them to ensure every single apple on the tree gets the sunlight it needs!☀️
Our growers are constantly in the orchards & looking for ways to bring you the biggest, sweetest, juiciest fruit available. 🍎

“Hi, I’m Byron Borton with Borton & Sons. Welcome back to another Farm Friday. Let’s talk about these massive steel structures behind me going up to the sky. Why do they exist, what are they for, are they just to attract lightning? Nobody knows! The V-trellis has an anchor in the ground here it’s about four feet in the ground with a big plate which holds up this whole system and then we basically tighten wires going the distance of the rows to create a support for the trees. These are a 19 foot steel stakes. We put them two feet in the ground which gives us 17 feet above and then we’re actually using the crossbar across to get make sure the angle is more upright. Originally we were connecting the top but the angle was too flat to make the adequate amount of light come down. What was happening is the lower branches of the tree were not getting enough light they were dying back or they were not producing the great quality of fruit so we’ve gone through and basically welded a crossbar and opened up almost all of our v-trellis blocks over the past three seasons.”
