“Hello everyone, welcome back to another Farm Friday! I’m Kaitlyn Thornton, I’m a fourth generation apple and pear grower up in Tonasket, Washington. So we’re about on the last day or two of harvest. We’ve got about another 100 bins to pick and then we are done for the year. This is the fruit we’re picking right now. We’ve got gorgeous Fuji’s, this is what it’s looking like. We’re really happy with it, but one of the major things about picking this late in the year as we’re wrapping everything up is it gets pretty dang cold at night. So during the night, if it gets cold enough the fruit actually can be frozen and we can’t actually start picking until later in the day when that fruit thaws out. When that fruit is frozen it actually is more susceptible to bruising, so we gotta wait and start picking a little bit later in the day. It makes things just a little bit slower. These Fujis that we pick at the end of the year, they honestly go through a little bit more than most apples go through. We’re happy to get them in the bin and to the store to see you guys!”
