4th generation apple & pear grower Kaitlyn Thornton is here to walk us through the final Honeycrisp harvest of the season!
Winter is well on it’s way up here in Washington, so it’s currently all hands on deck to make sure no fruit is wasted before the freezing temperatures & snow come.

“Alright everyone, welcome back to a Farm Friday! I’m headed down to this orchard right here. This is our Honeycrisp orchard and if you can see right here it kind of dips down and there’s a little bit of a valley to it. It’s kind of a pocket of cooler weather. With Honeycrisp, we go through and usually pick three separate times. The first time we go and pick the the ripest and reddest apples. Then we go through a second time a little bit later do the same thing. Now we are finally at the third pick because we have no choice because it’s gonna get around 22 degrees tonight. This means any fruit left on the trees are actually going to… well there’s nothing we can do with them. All the guys are going to be going through and picking out the reddest apples, the ones that we can actually do something with. We’re gonna be picking until dark tonight and try to get as much fruit off as the tree as we can! It’s kind of a race against time and Mother Nature right now. We’re doing the best we can and we’ve got an awesome crew back here!”
