5th generation grower Hawkins Gebbers explains the 4 ways we protect our fruit from the sun and heat! ☀️

Video Transcript:

“Hey what’s up guys, I’m Hawkins Gebbers, I’m a fifth generation farmer. We got a hot week coming up. We gotta do some things to protect the fruit. We have four types of protection. Number one we got netting. So a physical barrier, this net is about 15 shade. This system here is evaporative cooling. So those are high pressure misters that at about 87 degrees will come on and they create almost like a cloud above the fruit. The third type is called cycled cooling. And it’s where we put sprinklers up in the air for overhead and we actually cycle them around every 15 minutes. Fifth the way that we protect our fruit actually use a formulation of a bicarbonate which is actually like hard water in your drinking water. But it’s formulated in a way that you can spray it on as a plant nutrient, organic material, really beautiful material. And it simply blocks that fruit from getting sunburned. And lastly and most important, it’s nice to just cool off once in a while.”
