Welcome back to another Farm Friday! This week, a couple of our dedicated growers show us how they know when an organic honeycrisp apple is ready for harvest.
Video Transcript:
“Hey at Hawkins, I got you out here in an organic honeycrisp block and this week on Farm Friday I want to show you what we do to bring you fantastic honeycrisp apples, specifically organic, all year round. Honeycrisp is a really special apple and I’m going to bring a guy in that’s been doing it for 20 years named Efrain. He’s a good friend of mine and he’s taught me a lot of things that I know about honey in terms that I can understand and you can understand. My background is about 20 years experience in these trees and I believe we’re getting ready to pick. My favorite apple is honeycrisp when they are ripe. It melts inside your mouth. That’s the way that you know honeycrisp when it’s ready to pick. You’re looking for the color. Sometimes the color can trick you a little bit but uh we have another way to know the honeycrisp when the apple is turning yellow in the background. Doesn’t matter you have color inside on the cheek or not because uh the maturity is inside when it’s more yellow.”
