5th generation grower Hawkins Gebbers explains the benefits of a V Trellis system used throughout some of our orchards!

Video Transcript:

“Hey what’s up guys, I’m Hawkins Gebbers, I’m a fifth generation farmer. So in this V-trellis we actually carry about 2,200 trees per acre on about a two foot by twelve foot spacing between eighteen hundred and two thousand trees, actually. And what we’re trying to do here with a very formal system on wires is allow the sunshine to have windows into this fruit because sunlight produces what everything that a fruitlet needs. It brings on the minerals, it brings in the sugar and it allows the fruit to develop to its maximum potential. In this system we can carry more fruitlets per acre than in any other system. The drawbacks are cost. Look at this building that we’ve built. The costs are immense in a v-trellis system but the rewards of high quality, high color fruit across the board with really homogenous crops is actually phenomenal.”
