Sautéing pears is a great way to use them up in a delicious way. Since they are naturally sweet, there is no need to add any sugar during the cooking process, making this a healthy breakfast choice! Cooking pears also helps minimize food waste as it is a great way to still use fruit that is past its prime, bruised or getting too soft. In this recipe I use both Bartlett and Red Pear varieties, and the texture combination is fantastic!
Ingredients:
- 2 large, ripe, Joyfully Grown™ pears (1 Bartlett and 1 Red Pear)
- 1 tbsp. coconut oil
- 2 c. + 2 tbsp. water (divided)
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. quick cook oats
- ½ c. vanilla yogurt
- ¼ c. granola of choice
- Maple syrup to taste (optional)
Directions:
- Peel, core, and slice pears to ½ inch thickness.
- Melt coconut oil in a pan, add in the pear slices, sprinkle with cinnamon, add the 2 tbsp. of water, cover, and allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes.

- Meanwhile, make the oatmeal according to the package directions.
- When the pears have finished caramelizing, remove pan from heat.
- Place cooked oatmeal into personal serving bowls, top with sautéed pears, dollop of yogurt, sprinkle of granola and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
