Sautéing pears is a great way to use them up in a delicious way. Since they are naturally sweet, there is no need to add any sugar during the cooking process, making this a healthy breakfast choice! Cooking pears also helps minimize food waste as it is a great way to still use fruit that is past its prime, bruised or getting too soft. In this recipe I use both Bartlett and Red Pear varieties, and the texture combination is fantastic!

Ingredients:

  • 2 large, ripe, Joyfully Grown™ pears (1 Bartlett and 1 Red Pear)
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2 c. + 2 tbsp. water (divided)
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. quick cook oats
  • ½ c. vanilla yogurt
  • ¼ c. granola of choice
  • Maple syrup to taste (optional)

Directions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice pears to ½ inch thickness.
  2. Melt coconut oil in a pan, add in the pear slices, sprinkle with cinnamon, add the 2 tbsp. of water, cover, and allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, make the oatmeal according to the package directions.
  4. When the pears have finished caramelizing, remove pan from heat.
  5. Place cooked oatmeal into personal serving bowls, top with sautéed pears, dollop of yogurt, sprinkle of granola and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
