A piece of our Joyfully Grown™ legacy is continuing to pass down from each generation the traditions that we all hold close to hearts. In the ways we care for people and the land, each generation has carefully adapted and evolved what they learned from the family members before them. This also applies to how we bake apple pie – Grandma Reba’s Apple Pie, to be exact.
If you ask anyone in the large Gebbers extended family to share the recipe for Grandma Reba’s pie, they will share a version of the recipe below. But they will tell you, depending on the variety of apples you use, you might want to adjust the sugar. And some members strictly believe in using Crisco instead of butter in their crust and use only ice water, not tap water. These variations are minor but the beliefs of each baker run deep, that their version of this recipe is the best.
The one thing every member of each generation can agree on – if you make a modification to Grandma Reba’s recipe, don’t tell Grandma!
