Let’s face it, caramel and candy apples are kind of hard to eat! They are fun to make, but messy and difficult to bite into. For kids with braces, or toddlers, they are a no-go. We have simplified the concept, by using cut apples on fondue forks, with a variety of dipping sauces and tons of fun toppings! This is the perfect option for a dessert table at your next party! This recipe is fully customizable and fun for the whole family!

Ingredients:

  • Variety of 6 apples, we used Granny Smith, Fuji and Gala
  • Variety of 6 chocolates and other “chips” to melt. We used milk chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, butterscotch, white chocolate & cream cheese chips.
  • Variety of toppings. We used sweetened coconut, mini marshmallows, graham cracker crumbles, sprinkles variety, sliced almonds, crushed peanuts, Reese’s Pieces, mini M&M’s, mini chocolate chips and candy corn.
  • Coconut oil (if your melting candies get lumpy)

Special Equipment:

  • Crock pot or instant pot
  • Fondue forks or skewers
  • Muffin tin & liners
  • 6 mason jars or heat safe glass cups/ ramekins

Directions:

  1. Pour the variety of chocolates and caramels you plan to melt into clean mason jars.

  2. Place them into your crock pot or instant pot. Fill the empty space of the crock pot with water, filling to the same level as the candies, being careful to not get any water into the mason jars themselves. Turn the crock pot to high or your instant pot to simmer and allow the water to heat up and melt the candies inside of the jar.

  3. Once they start melting, turn the machine to low as to not cook the candies. It the candies get lumpy, you can add a tsp. of coconut oil to each jar, stirring well. While you are waiting for the candies to melt, prepare your toppings! Add a cupcake liner to each spot in your muffin tin and fill them up with the toppings you choose. Set these to the side.
  4. Core and cut the apples into eighths. Place the cut apples into a large bowl filled with water and a squirt of lemon juice to keep them from browning. When the candy is melted, and your table is ready for serving, strain the water from the apples and pat them dry with a clean towel. Place them on a cutting board, and enjoy!
