It’s time for some Farm Education!🍏✏️

This week, SugarBee® grower Kaitlyn Thornton teaches us about Mother Nature’s way of protecting your apples from limbs, other apples and the elements throughout their long growth process.🍎

Video Transcript:

“Hello everyone! We’re back in a SugarBee® apple orchard. Look how beautiful those trees are looking and the fruit is even prettier. You can see they’re mostly green. They’re starting to get a little bit of red on them, a little bit of color but for the most part they are pretty green. So we harvest these guys in October but they’re already starting to make what we call fruit finish. I’m just gonna set you guys at a tree. So as farmers, yes, we want a lot of fruit, but we also want good quality fruit. And so this time of year we polish up an apple. We’re right next to a road it’s got dust on it and stuff so I just rub it off on my shirt. And here you can see how it shines up, that’s kind of a waxy coating that an apple produces to help protect that piece of fruit. And look how gorgeous that is! That shine right there is exactly what we want to see. And the best way I can explain it is this waxy coating, this fruit finish, is Mother Nature’s way of making sure that this apple doesn’t get damaged by rubbing against limbs other apples, the elements in general, and just making sure it makes it to harvest.”
